Beginning January 1, 2008, a new pilot program will allow eligible pastors of small churches — those serving congregations of fewer than 200 members — to receive a stipend of up to $3,000 towards a sabbatical. Intended to supplement the financial aid of congregations, foundations, middle governing bodies, or other contributors, the Sabbath Sabbatical Support Grant program will help to address the need of pastors at smaller churches to take time away from the all-consuming demands of the job and engage in a period of personal and professional renewal.
The Board of Pensions will provide up to 110 grants that will be administered in cooperation with the middle governing bodies.
